Coronavirus latest: NHS vaccine statistics revealed for Luton and Bedfordshire

NHS England has published statistics showing the number of Covid-19 vaccines carried out across Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes up to January 24.

Between December 8 and January 24, the data shows 58,219 people in the region aged under 80 received their first dose of the vaccine.

Among the over 80s, 31,580 people (79.5% of the age group) also received their first dose.

The data also shows 655 people in the area under 80 have already received their second dose, along with 4,100 (10.3%) of over 80s.

In total, 94,554 doses of the vaccine were given across Beds, Luton and MK by January 24.

This is the lowest total in the East of England region, compared to others in Cambridge and Peterborough (109,794), Hertfordshire and West Essex (169,792), Mid and South Essex (139,321), Norfolk and Waveney (147,631) and Suffolk and North East Essex (114,011).

Case rates in Luton are described as being on a "slow trajectory" downwards, but the town remains the worst affected area in the East of England (see here).
