Coronavirus latest: Four new infections confirmed in Bedford

Four new coronavirus ifections have been confirmed in Bedford in the last 24 hours, according to Public Health England.

The total number of cases in the borough now stands at 1,231 (+4).

Yesterday (Thursday) saw 422 cases added to Bedford's total after Public Health England made changes to its data gathering.

Previous data shared by Public Health England relied solely on Pillar 1 (testing from Public Health England and NHS Hospital Trusts), but as of Thursday the information includes Pillar 2 (non-clinical and commercial testing).

Bedford has the sixth-worst coronavirus infection rate among authorities in England and Wales, at 717.3 per 100,000.

Elsewhere in the county, Central Bedfordshire stands has 1208 (+4) cases while Luton's figure is at 1,359 (+2).

Across the country, there have been 284,276 infections at an increase of 544 over the past 24 hours.

44,131people have died with coronavirus in the UK, up by 137 since yesterday.
