Coronavirus latest: 21 new cases confirmed in Bedford today

21 new coronavirus infections have been confirmed in Bedford over the past 24 hours, according to figures from Public Health England.

The total number of cases in the borough now stands at 2,331 (+21).

Elsewhere in the county, Central Bedfordshire has 2,330 (+42) cases, while Luton's figure stands at 3,292 (+93).

There have been 989,745 lab-confirmed cases across the UK, up by 24,405 in the past 24 hours.

46,229 deaths have been recorded within 28 days of a positive test, with a large daily rise of 274 deaths since yesterday.

It was announced yesterday (Thursday) that neighbouring Luton will move into "high alert level" Tier-2 of the government's coronavirus restrictions.

The new restrictions will come into effect at 12.01am on Saturday, October 31.

Other local leaders have warned their communities to remain vigilant in stopping the spread of the virus.
