The collection crews are working hard to keep Central Bedfordshire’s waste collected, the council is asking residents to help prevent the spread of coronavirus by keeping at least a two metre distance between yourselves and the operatives and cleaning your bin's handles before and after collection, then washing your hands.

Due to low staff numbers and in common with neighbouring councils, Central Bedfordshire Council recently suspended all garden waste collections for the time being. The council is prioritising collecting other materials including black bin/bag waste.

All of Central Bedfordshire Council's Household Waste Recycling Centres are closed until further notice.

Residents are being asked to keep hold of any large items such as furniture, wood and metals until the sites re-open, do not put any electrical items in any of your bins at home.

Please do not leave any waste outside the recycling centres. This is classed as fly-tipping and is a criminal offence, for which offenders will be prosecuted.

The council is also urging the public to avoid lighting bonfires, Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to 12 bonfires on Sunday.

Burning waste bad for the environment and a nuisance to those who wish to get fresh air, it also puts pressure on Beds Fire resources, when they could be better spent helping the community.
