Bedfordshire Police is not carrying out roadblocks and checkpoints in Ampthill Road, Bedford, despite images circulating on social media claiming that they are.

Police are aware of the images and have confirmed they are not true and have encouraged people not to share the images and reminding the public to use trusted sources, like the Bedfordshire Police Facebook page.

Bedfordshire Police is reminding the public to follow the government’s current guidance and stay at home unless for essential journeys.

The force is asking people who wish to exercise outside once a day, to do this near where they live, to avoid adding more traffic on the roads than is necessary.

A spokesperson for Bedfordshire Police said: "During the Covid-19 pandemic, our priority is to save lives by protecting the public and the NHS.

"As a force we are working alongside our health and local authority partners to engage and encourage people to adhere to government guidance. Thank you for your support."
