Bedfordshire Fire Service create ‘virtual school visit'

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service have made a 'virtual school visit' suitable for young primary school children across the county.

Firefighters from Kempston White Watch created the video in an attempt to reach out to isolated families and engage with young children on fire safety.

The 10 minute virtual lesson includes an explanation on what Firefighters do, a storytime session with ‘Frances the Firefly’ and key safety messages such as ‘what to do if there’s a fire in your home’.

Firefighter Tom Field said: “Whilst we cannot physically attend our usual school fire safety visits, we really want to continue to engage with our communities.

"Therefore, we decided to create a ‘virtual school visit’ that can be shared online to help spread important fire safety messages.”

The firefighters also provide a key demonstration of how to 'Stop, Drop and Roll' and how to test a smoke alarm.

Station Commander Simon Williams added: “During this period of unprecedented isolation, it is important that we continue to engage with our communities in order to help keep them safe.

"I’d like to thank Kempston White Watch for producing this video and would encourage people to share this widely with family and friends.”
