Figures last night revealed Bedford has now recorded 549 coronavirus cases, while nearby Milton Keynes - which boasts a much bigger population - has 506 cases.

Central Bedfordshire now has 576 cases, while Luton has 668.

Buckinghamshire has a total of 933 cases and Hertfordshire has 2,728.

On Sunday, May 10, Boris Johnson said people should return to work if they can't do so from home - but they should try to avoid public transport for social distancing reasons. Some shops are also beginning to open with social distancing measures in place.

The Prime Minister also said there would now be no limit to the amount of exercise allowed.

The new figures are now recorded between 5pm the previous day to 5pm.

Nationally, the number of coronavirus cases now stands at 243,695. The number of deaths has been recorded as 34,636.
