NHS is urging people to continue to donate blood and platelets

As the NHS is appealing for more people to donate blood during the coronavirus outbreak, one man is certainly doing his bit for the cause.

Graham Wood is celebrating after giving his 100th blood donation.

The 66-year-old of Brickhill, has been donating since he was 18.

His wife Pat said: "This is a great achievement and commitment. So few people give blood, which is vitally needed. Graham is going to continue giving blood for as long as he is able. I’m so proud of him."

The session - at the King’s Arm’s hall in Ampthill Road - is one of many up and down the country and the NHS is appealing for people to keep donating blood and platelets during this health crisis.

In a statement on NHS Blood and Transplant's website, it said: "Our centres are open. Our staff are putting extra safety measures in place for you to donate. Coming to give blood is considered essential travel. We are working with the rest of the NHS to keep services running as normally as possible during the coronavirus pandemic."
