Another 11 people test positive for virus at school hit by Covid-19 outbreak in Bedford

Five members of staff and six students have tested positive for the coronavirus at a school on the outskirts of Bedford.

Sharnbrook Academy said in a statement that it is now working with Public Health England 'to take all necessary precautions'.

A spokesperson for the school said: "Five members of staff and six students are currently self-isolating having tested positive for Covid-19. We wish them a return to good health as soon as possible."

All eleven people, and the people they came into contact with, are now said to be self-isolating - it is unknown how many people in total are self-isolating.

This comes after the school confirmed on Friday (September 25) that three members of staff and one student tested positive for the coronavirus.

So far, in total, the school has had 15 positive cases of Covid-19.

Sharnbrook Academy reports four confirmed cases of Covid-19The spokesperson said the school did a lot of work over the summer to make sure it was as prepared as possible for positive cases, and that it is pleased the systems in place are working well.

"The robust safety measures we have put in place, including creating year group bubbles to avoid cross-contamination, means we remain open to all other students,” the spokesperson said.
