Central Beds Council has announced all its household waste recycling centres will be closing immediately, until further notice.

In a statement, it said "The safety of customers and staff is very important, therefore in accordance with current government coronavirus guidelines of avoiding non-essential contact, preventing a risk of infection to others, and only leaving the home when strictly necessary, the sites will be closed."

The council is asking residents to hold on to any large items such as furniture, wood and metals until the sites re-open and to not put any electrical items in your bins at home.

A spokesman added: "Please do not leave any waste outside the recycling centres. This is classed as fly-tipping and is a criminal offence, for which offenders will be prosecuted."

Where possible residents should compost grass cuttings and hedge trimmings at home or alternatively keep your garden waste until sites re-open. For more information on how to compost visit here
