Bedford Borough Council is encouraging people to be kind to others as well as to themselves as part of Mental Health Awareness Week with this year’s theme of kindness.

The coronavirus pandemic and lockdown has been challenging and people’s mental health may have been affected in various ways.

Kindness and mental health are deeply connected. Many people will be feeling lonely, isolated, stressed and anxious during this difficult period, so it’s important we do all we can to look after each other and support one another’s mental wellbeing.

Cllr Louise Jackson, portfolio holder for public health and wellbeing, said: “Looking after our mental health is just as important as our physical health.

“Being kind and receiving kindness from others can help during these difficult times by reducing isolation and stress, strengthening relationships, developing community and deepening solidarity.

“It's important to remember it is OK to feel stressed or anxious and that everyone reacts differently. Remember, this situation is temporary and, for most people, these difficult feelings will pass.”
