Singer Tom Grennan returned to his hometown of Bedford to give a virtual singing lesson for the students of St Thomas More Catholic School.

Previously a student at the school himself, Tom wanted to lend support to his hometown community, giving something back to the young people of Bedford at a time when lockdowns are affecting vital music education and a creative outlet.

Awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree by the University of Bedfordshire for outstanding services to the arts in 2019, the community where he grew up and his music education are hugely valuable to Tom.

He said: “Community is so important. It’s tough out there right now, especially on the young people who are stuck at home waiting to get back in school, learn and create together.

"I wanted to give something back to my community, Bedford’s where I’m from, and it’s shaped who I am. I want to do Bedford proud!

"It was great to chat with the St Thomas More Class of ‘21, hear their stories and share some of the lessons I’ve learnt along the way.

"Singing is the best outlet, medicine and release in the world, and I hope all of the students are inspired to find their own voices, even when they’re stuck at home.”

St Thomas More teacher Angela Costello, who also taught Tom in his school days, said: “To have Tom return to our school and offer our students an inspiring master class was a truly memorable moment for our school community.

"We are extremely proud to see Tom’s dreams come true and will continue to support him at every stage of his career.”

In a new video, Tom returns to the same school hall at St Thomas More where he gave his first ever live performance as a young teenager.

Speaking to students aged 15, 16 and 17 via Zoom, Tom shared advice on finding melodies, vocal warm ups, training vocal chords, scales and a special performance of his single ‘Little Bit Of Love’.

Students then had an opportunity for a Q+A with Tom. Sharing stories across his career, Tom opened up about starting out busking in Bedford town centre, playing rite-of-passage music venue and hub of the local scene, Bedford Esquires, to headlining Brixton Academy and the Royal Albert Hall.

Students are encouraged to record their own version of Little Bit Of Love and share it on TikTok and Instagram tagging @TomGrennan #LittleBitOfLove #EveringRoad for the chance to win VIP tickets to a headline date on Tom’s September 2021 UK headline tour, a signed copy of new album Evering Road, and exclusive Tom Grennan merchandise.

Tom’s new album 'Evering Road' was released today (March 12) via Insanity Records, and went straight to Number 1 on the iTunes UK album chart.

He has announced UK headline tour dates for September through to October 2021. Tickets are available now and the tour will include Tom’s biggest ever UK headline show to date at London’s Alexandra Palace - a landmark gig at the iconic 10,000 capacity venue, for more details click here.
