Harrold Primary Academy in Bedford has received a generous anonymous donation to help fund their new playground equipment.

The Harrold Parent Teacher Association (PTA), a team of eight dedicated mums, has been working hard since September to raise funds for new playground equipment at the Academy through their initiative ‘Project Playground’.

The group’s fundraising efforts were boosted further last month when it received an anonymous donation of £4,500.

The Harrold PTA and the Academy is unaware of the identity of the generous mystery benefactor.

The anonymous donation brings the total amount of money raised by ‘Project Playground’ to £23,000.

The Harrold PTA had already raised money through fundraising events within the community, they also received grants from the Harrold Parish Council and The Harpur Trust following successful applications.

The design of the new playground equipment at Harrold Primary Academy, part of the Sharnbrook Academy Federation, was an Academy wide effort, with the Parent Teacher Association meeting with the school council to discuss design ideas.

The building of the new playground is now complete and the Academy is looking forward to some of its returning pupils being able to make use of the equipment safely and in accordance to government guidelines on social distancing and infection control.

Debonair Brown, Academy Principal at Harrold Primary Academy, said: “We are exceptionally grateful to our anonymous benefactor, the Harrold Parish Council, The Harpur Trust, and everyone within the wider school community who has donated.

"The new playground equipment will bring a lot of joy and happiness to so many of our pupils.

"I am especially thankful to the Parent Teacher Association, without whom none of this would have been possible.

“In a period where there are lots of negative news stories circulating, it is important we remain positive throughout and share the wonderful things that continue to happen each and every day.”
