Artist creates wax model of Captain Tom from Bedford

When sculptor Vincent Gray was looking for a worthy subject for his next project, our very own Captain Tom Moore was the obvious choice.

Taking 12 days to model, the terracotta wax maquette stands at 30cm and shows Captain Tom, from Marston Moretaine, on his epic marathon fundraising walk with NHS staff willing him on.

Vincent, of Chichester, West Sussex, said: "The NHS staff are comprised of two males and two females. These figures represent all NHS staff across the board celebrating equality, diversity and inclusion, highlighting a fair and inclusive NHS."

The hope is - given enough interest - the work would be scaled up, cast in bronze and sited somewhere fitting.

Vincent added: "The wax maquette will also be cast in bronze and form a limited edition of six, one of which will be raffled and one of which will go to Captain Tom."
