Sports presenter Ray returns to Rising Stars awards

TOP football pundit Ray Stubbs has been confirmed as the master of ceremonies for this year’s Rising Stars Business Excellence Awards.

Mr Stubbs, a former professional footballer, presented satellite TV channel ESPN’s coverage of the Barclays Premier League, FA Cup, Scottish football and European ties last season.

Born in 1956, the former Tranmere Rovers player has himself been a regular fixture at the Premier Newspapers-organised awards, which will this year be held on Thursday, November 10 at Park Inn, Bedford.

Rebecca McCreath, group events & exhibitions manager at Premier Newspapers, said: “It will be my first year working with Mr Stubbs and from what my colleagues say it will be a delight. I’m told Mr Stubbs always handles our awards ceremony professionally and, with a gentle sense of humour, keeps things ticking along nicely.”

Mr Stubbs worked for many years at the BBC before joining ESPN in 2009. He was part of the Grandstand presentation team and took over as the regular presenter of Football Focus from Gary Lineker in 1999 as well as being an occasional presenter of Match Of The Day. So he’s used to speaking about the kind of top class performers he’ll meet at the Bedfordshire and Luton Rising Stars awards.

Our independent judges will be deliberating across 10 categories of business excellence, including Apprentice of the Year, which is sponsored by Bedford College and Bedford College Training Services.

Regular award supporters, chartered accountants and business advisers Keens Shay Keens, based in Luton, Bedford and Biggleswade, are also backing the awards in a big way.

Other easy to enter categories to consider include international business, company of the year, employee of the year, green business award, customer care excellence, new business, small/medium sized business, innovation and strategy award and entrepreneur of the year.

Potential sponsors should contact Rebecca by email to [email protected]

Entrants in any of the 10 categories should visit the awards website at www2.lutontoday.co.uk/risingstars2011

The closing date for entries is October 7 but the message is not to wait.
