With the British public being urged to stay home and help protect lives in response to a rise in COVID-19 infections and a dramatic rise in hospital admissions across the country. Bedford Borough Council have made the decision to close all multi-storey car parks except the parking on Queen Street.

The car park in Queen Street will remain open at all hours to provide parking for critical workers and those who need parking for essential journeys.

Public parking remains available in Bedford at surface car parks including: Riverside Car Park, St Mary's, Duckmill Lane, Ashburnham Road, Prebend Street, Greyfriars and Melbourne Street, and on-street parking will be available as always.

Councilor Charles Royden said: “With clear legal instructions to stay at home to control the virus, protect the NHS and save lives, we have made the decision to close three of our multi-storey car parks in the town centre.

“There will still be parking available at Queen Street multi-storey and surface car parks for critical workers who commute, need to park in town for work or anyone getting their essential shopping.”
