Old piggery has new lease of life

A disused piggery in Haynes has become guest accommodation thanks to a generous grant from The Greensand Ridge Rural Development Programme and EEDA.

The Greensand Ridge Rural Development Programme was set up to encourage growth in the area with key importance being tourism and leisure, diversification and the support of local businesses.

As West Park Farm and The Old Piggery are situated on the Ridge, the opportunity to become part of this was a very exciting prospect.

Situated on a working arable farm, The Old Piggery Guest Accommodation offers an idyllic location with 8 well-appointed en suite bedrooms. There is a spacious, airy dining and lounge area, plus a large deck and lawn all overlooking the surrounding fields.

It caters perfectly for business and leisure guests, and is an ideal environment to wind down, relax and enjoy the area.

The funding application took 12 months to complete and was very effective in ensuring the owners knew what they were taking on and the financial implications.

Once underway it proved to be a mammoth task and as with all projects of this type there was a constant stream of issues that arose.

However, diligence, patience and perseverance have paid off and it is finally complete.

Its location gives extremely good access to both M1 and A1 motorways plus various rail networks.

The Old Piggery also provides a base from which to explore the area, enabling guests to enjoy the surrounding countryside which is rich in wildlife, leisure activities along with a good selection of pubs and restaurants in the surrounding historic towns and villages such as Clophill, Old Warden and Ampthill.
