A teenager with a love of cooking has taken on Choice Rolls in Bedford.

Darryl Woolerson, 17, has always loved cooking - helped out in his granddad's restaurant since the age of 13, so the move to run his own business felt quite natural.

He said: "I love the atmosphere and reacting with the customers. It has been my dream to run my own place."

Home schooled through the PLACE Programme from the age of eight, Darryl can often be found cooking dinner at home for his large family of five siblings.

So what can the hungry people of Bedford expect from the cafe in Lime Street?

"I do full English breakfast, breakfast baps and baguettes, vegan breakfast, cold baps and baguettes. I have just started doing jacket potatoes and have a new panini grill. I also serve beef burgers and chips," he said.

And is the plucky teen worried about starting a business during a pandemic?

"I'm doing OK at the moment as I have built up some regular customers. I am worried if we go into another lockdown, but will have to cross that bridge if it happens," Darryl added, who also attended Milton Keynes College.

The cafe is open Monday to Friday 7.30am-2.30pm and Saturday 8.30am-2pm, with a fiver fest on breakfasts and tea from October 10 to 24.
