Royal Mail is celebrating Captain Thomas Moore’s 100th birthday with a special postbox in honour of his incredible efforts to raise money for the NHS.

The postbox is painted ‘NHS blue’ and includes a golden balloon and birthday greetings in honour of Captain Tom’s 100th birthday, which he is celebrating today (Thursday).

The special postbox is located on Bedford Road, MK43 0LA in Marston Moretaine, close to where Captain Tom lives.

Royal Mail has also issued a special postmark to celebrate the 100th Birthday of Captain Thomas Moore.

David Gold, Director of Public Affairs and Policy at Royal Mail said: “We wish Captain Thomas Moore a very happy 100th birthday.

"His achievements are truly phenomenal, and this is reflected in the affection shown for him across the world. We are working hard to keep the country connected during these uncertain times and celebrating Captain Tom’s 100th birthday with a special postbox, alongside the postmark announced earlier in the week.

"We continue to deliver the many tens of thousands of birthday cards sent from across the UK and abroad as people look to show their gratitude for all Captain Tom has achieved.

Royal Mail has also issued a special postmark to celebrate the 100th Birthday of Captain Thomas Moore.

The postmark has been applied across all stamped mail from Monday 26th April and will run until Friday 1st May.

The postmark reads: Happy 100th Birthday Captain Thomas Moore NHS fundraising hero 30th April 2020.

To deal with the large volume of birthday mail being sent to Captain Tom, Royal Mail’s South Midlands Mail Centre has had to adapt its sorting machines to re-route all of his mail into a dedicated collection box.

So far, Royal Mail has processed more than 100,000 cards for Captain Tom using this new process.

Captain Tom Moore has now reached the £30million mark for the NHS, he has become a symbol of hope and unity across the UK during these uncertain times.

To raise money for NHS workers, Captain Tom set himself the challenge of walking 100 laps of his garden before he turned 100 years old.

He completed the feat on Thursday, April 16, two weeks before his birthday.
