Shakespearean tragedy gets punk makeover on the stage

There have been many revivals of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, but it's safe to say that not many of them involve punk rock and motorbikes.

To mark the 400th anniversary of the Bard’s death, this new version will be set in Verona-on-sea. The tragic tale of star crossed lovers will transport you back to the 1960s where it’s Mods vs Rockers.

Taking inspiration from real events in the South of England in 1964, Shakespeare’s classic words will take you to the sights and sounds of that iconic time.

A spokesman for the orhanisers said: “You’ll be able to hear the music from the era, see authentic costumes, a real Lambretta and a 1964 Norton motorbike on stage as well as movement that depicts a time of violence and changing attitudes.

“Think ‘Quadrophenia’ meets ‘West Side Story’.

“You won’t want to miss this moving, memorable and modern theatrical experience.”

The show runs from Monday March 14 to Saturday March 19 starting at 7.30pm.

Tickets for the show cost from £9 are available on line by visiting www.sharnbrookmilltheatre.co.uk or by calling 01234 718044. To buy them in person visit Twinkle Twinkle Boutique, High Street, Sharnbrook.
