A noteworthy light concert from choirs

WHAT better way to spend a summer evening than by relaxing to the sounds of two harmonious choirs?

The Alma Singers and the Garden Warblers will perform a programme of light music in Great Barford Village Hall on Friday (August 5) at 7.30pm.

Tessa Wood, the group’s accompanist, said: “There will be songs from the shows, African songs, pieces like California Dreamin’ and some folk songs.”

The two choirs will sing both separately and together. The audience may recognise the Garden Warblers as they sang for the Open Garden Scheme earlier in the year.

There will also be oboe and cor anglais solos from Karen Beer and Italian songs from tenor, Alex Ellar.

Local garden centres have donated prizes for the raffle.

Tickets cost £6.50 and the money raised will go to Great Barford Bowls Club. The Alma Singers raised £1,500 for a Kenyan orphanage in April and for this smaller concert they hope to collect £1,000.
