Gavin Chappell-Bates, who lives in Cambridge, is performing at The Pembroke Arms in the town on Saturday June 13.

He is a singer, guitarist and songwriter writing and performing effervescent, emotive and uplifting music.

He released his debut EP in February 2015 and he has just finished recording his debut solo album.

Gavin said: “I’ll be performing live looping versions of songs from my debut Black Holes EP and forthcoming album, as well as my take on some classic covers.

“You’ll be able to buy your copy of the EP at the gig, as well as limited edition Black Holes tour t-shirts. “

After performing for years in various bands, Gavin decided in 2014 to embark on a solo career.

Bringing together the best songs he had written since being a teenager and finely tuning them, he began work on his debut album which would map the journey of his life from adolescent to adult, from darkness into light.

His songs shift from acoustic balladry to punk rock but all have an underlying connection with the human emotional condition and have a sense of euphoria.

He covers topics and themes as diverse as childhood, politics, suicide, love, hope and determination.

His upbeat and effervescent music has been compared with Manic Street Preachers, The Pixies, Feeder, Ash and Nirvana.

He has overcome years of severe depression and anxiety during his youth, only to be saved by his passion for music during those dark days. Having confronted his mental demons and learnt how to live a happy and positive life, Gavin now wants to make sure others can do the same.

Entrance to the gig is free and starts at 9pm.
