Bands set to take over town for charity this weekend

Some of the best local talent is coming together this weekend to raise money for international aid charity Oxfam.

The Oxjam Bedford Takeover is a one day music festival that brings together the best of local talent to raise money for Oxfam. It is part of the nationwide ‘takeover’ taking place in around 40 towns and cities in the UK.

It starts at 2pm on Saturday in Danny’s Bar, Bedford Esquires. Other venues include Holy Molys and The main stage in Esquires and The Pad, as well as the Bedford Arms, to which entry will be free.

Wristbands to get into all stages will be £10 but there will be lower prices for individual venues.

A range of genres are represented, including acoustic, indie, pop, rock, folk, blues and metal. Acts include Cicero Buck who regularly tour the county with their mixture of folk, rock and blues, Delora, a two-piece girl band who have toured the country all summer, and Fishwifes Broadside, a nine-piece acoustic skiffle-punk band.

Also playing will be the Smokin’ Durrys, who will bring a touch of blues and rock’n’roll, and Hulkenburg, a two piece thrash band .

Takover manager Rhiannon Shades said: “Supporting the local music scene is something Bedford is good at. Coming along to the Oxjam Bedford Takeover not only supports our local scene, but also the global work of Oxfam.”
