Bedfordshire U17 remain on song in Shires League
A busy weekend for Junior County Badminton saw Bedfordshire U17s retain their 100 per cent Shires League record by defeating hosts Shropshire 13-7.
After the mixed doubles were shared, the girls (Natasha Bolding, Mary Wang, Ami Lyons and Georgina Crossman) won all their singles and levelled the doubles games.
The boys (Darren Adamson, Peter Adamson, Ian Robinson and Richard Kemp) found things much more difficult against higher-ranked opponents but some excellent performances resulted in two doubles and one singles wins.
The U13s also emerged victorious at Shropshire. The team (Steffano Sacco, Alex Ingham, Philip Roberts, Brett Bone, Hazel Trengrove, Neelam Kaur, Bethany Childs and Cherelle Hibbert) won their first match of the season 12-8.
Going into the doubles the scores were tied at 6-6 before Bedfordshire won six of the eight final matches.
In the Eastern Region team tournament held at Luton Regional Sports Centre the U16s finished third in an event consisting of teams from Cambridgeshire, Essex, Herts, Norfolk and Suffolk.
The team may have even finished higher were it not for an injury to one of their squad, which forced them to concede two of the seven games in their last three matches. The team was made up of Ami Lyons, Georgina Crossman, Jasmine Lakhani, Ian Robinson, Matthew Parsloe and Sandeep Butters.
Darren Adamson was part of the team representing Bedfordshire in the U15 team challenge held at Brandon, Suffolk. Despite his best efforts the county were only victorious against Northants, losing some tight encounters to Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk and Herts.
The other members of the team were Gregory Pearson, Matthew Harris, Katherine Moor, Emily Parsloe and Emily Tomkinson.
