One of the UK’s top jazz vocalists comes to Bedford next week.
The Tina May Quartet play at the Ent Shed in Castle Road on Thursday October 1.
Leighton Buzzard-based Tina May started winning awards as well as friends through her singing in 1993, as she was awarded a silver medal by The Worshipful Company of Musicians. This also coincided with Tina’s first week at Ronnie Scott’s with her own band.
Tina has won praise from the Guardian for “handling the classics as the gems they still are”. She will be bringing a trio of top musicians with her to The Ent Shed – Arnie Somogyi, Robin Aspland and Mark Hale.
Tickets cost £10 plus booking fee for adults and £8 plus booking fee for students, with tickets available from conscia.org and on the door. Under-18s are admitted free with a full paying adult, with a maximum of two per adult.
The night is run by Conscia Jazz, a Bedford-based jazz promotion and education company. As well as running many monthly events and a yearly festival, Conscia will launch the new Bedford Youth Jazz Orchestra in January, with auditions taking place in November.
Conscia Jazz’s regular event at The Ent Shed takes olace on the first Thursday of every month and features some of the top UK jazz talent. Conscia also runs monthly events at The Auction Room Bar and The Pavilion Cafe.
