A young ballerina is taking to the stage with professional dancers in a new production of Giselle.

Home-educated Francesca Sibley, from Bedford, successfully auditioned for The English Youth Ballet (EYB) show being performed in August.

She said: “I was three when I started dancing.

“My mum took me along and I tried it and I really enjoyed it.

“I am looking forward to the experience of working with the EYB and working the professional dancers in Giselle.”

The 12-year-old faced tough competition to join the company to get the role of villager in the show, which will run for three performances in Bromley, Kent.

She said: “ When I am older I would quite like to run my own business.

“I am into dancing, writing, textiles and musical theatre, so maybe a business with one of those.”

The English Youth Ballet gives young dancers the opportunity to gain an insight into what life would be like as a ballet dancer.

The cast is headed by professional adult dancers, with the lead role being danced by British principle ballerina Julianne Rice Oxley.

She said: “Working in a professional environment gives the students a unique insight into life in a ballet company.

“Francesca is so lucky – I wish there had been something like EYB when I was training!”
