British jazz/soul diva Natalie Williams and American singer/pianist Charlie Wood are coming together to play with an all-star band in Bedford.
The event will be the latest instalment in British jazz legend Jacqui Dankworth’s concert series A Song For You being held at the newly renovated Quarry Theatre at St Luke’s.
Jacqui will be on hand herself to present the evening and introduce the performers. Upcoming concerts in the series include singer/pianist Liane Carroll on November 21 and a special Christmas charity concert on December 11 by Jacqui and many of her musical friends.
Both Williams and Wood are highly accomplished and celebrated performers, with Williams having been nominated for a MOBO award (and Wood having recently been honoured with a Brass Note on Beale Street bearing his name in his native Memphis, Tennessee). The pair performed together in London this September for the opening night of the new Singers’ Lounge in Covent Garden.
The concert will feature Williams’ and Wood’s interpretations of classic soul and R&B songs by Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and others, some of their favourite jazz standards, and also original compositions by both artists.
