Flitwick skatepark was buzzing with excitement when more than 100 young people turned up to take part or watch friends in a competition.
Over 40 people entered the competition, which was organised by local resident Elliott Heathcote, 4YP youth services and Flitwick Town Council. Most participants were from Flitwick and surrounding areas, but some came from further afield.
Gemma Winn, a 4YP youth worker, said Saturday, August 15 was a “brilliant opportunity to build community and for young people to showcase their skills.”
She added: “During our weekly youth work sessions, we normally see the skatepark busy with young people teaching each other new tricks and perfecting their techniques, so it was great to see even more enjoying it on Saturday.’ she said.
‘We ran a BBQ alongside the competition which involved games of skate, scoot and bike. We’re hoping to make next years event even bigger and better!’
Elliott, who has been using the skatepark since it opened, said: “It was a great day and the level of talent gets better each year. I can’t wait for the next one!” The event helped to raise more than £200 towards skatepark improvements.
