The price of Wendy's ticket

We gave you the heads up about Wendy James' appearance at Bedford Esquires a couple of weeks back, but a timely reminder that the former Transvision Vamp lady will be playing the venue on Saturday night.

Her colourful career takes in three decades and her classic punk rock sounds have served her well.

Her third solo album The Price of the Ticket – featuring a topless James on the cover – was released in February, and boasts a stellar line-up of players. Sex Pistol Glen Matlock, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds drummer Jim Solavunos, Patti Smith group collaborator Lenny Kaye and Iggy and the Stooges’ Steve Mackay played on the opus. That’s a tempting proposition, right there.

“Miley Cyrus likes her apparently, we’ve put her on the guest list,” says promoter Milky.

Now NYC based, Wendy is still potent and essential.

‘The perfect cocktail of dirty blues and punk attitudes...quality boom and bap,’ says her online profile.

We’ll take that.

Tickets are £16 from www.seetickets.com

> Matt Berry & The Maypoles will be live at the venue on Monday when the witty, theatrical and musically spellbinding fella provides something of an invigorating journey for listeners.

It’ll be every bit as beautiful as it will be surreal, and it’s a local show for the fella who has also found success in TV shows including The Mighty Boosh and The IT Crowd.

He’s an all-round success, and a boy from Bromham to boot.

Tickets are £13.50 in advance.
