From the Tommy in the trenches of the First World War to the Trooper of the D-Day landings, the event will draw spectators into the theatre of war from all quarters at Wrest Park. Re-enactors, displays and interactive activities will all be on show to tell the story of what life would have been like during times of war, both on the frontline and at home.

Visitors can enjoy huge arena displays that take place throughout the day.

These include strolling through a First World War cavalry encampment and witness the firepower of both the Axis and Allied troops of the Second World War.

Debbie Houldsworth, English Heritage events manager, said: “This is one of our most popular events, made all the more poignant against the backdrop of Britain’s first WWI convalescent home as we continue to commemorate the First World War centenary.

“There will be something going on at every turn and it should be a fantastic event as there really is something for everyone and our re-enactments in particular are set to be especially explosive!”

It runs from 10am to 6pm on Sunday and Monday May 29 and 30. Tickets can be purchased online by visiting www.english-heritage.org.uk/Wrest events, or by calling 0370 333 1183. Tickets for the event will also be available to purchase at the site on the day.
