The beer is set to flow again at the annual Bedford Bamberg Spring Fest which takes place on Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10 from midday to midnight each day.

Beer afficionados, fans of Germany’s epicurean delights and anyone looking for a great event will see Bedford’s Harpur Suite transformed into an authentic beer hall complete with oompah band and a huge selection of German beers.

This year’s event boasts more than 40 different German beers, wine and schnapps on offer with 12 beers brewed in Bamberg itself. The smoked beer from Bamberg - Schlenkerla Rauchbier - will again be available on tap this year.

There will be a German barbecue, live music and atmosphere of a German beer hall to keep you entertained.

Councillor Doug McMurdo, portfolio holder for leisure and culture at Bedford Borough Council, said: “Spring Fest is one of the most popular events on the Corn Exchange calendar, and always attracts hundreds of people throughout the weekend. Attendance was up 20% last year and well over 4,000 pints were sold.

“We have more than 40 German beers brought in especially for the event as well as wines, schnapps and soft drinks. The popular Don Bosco Brass Band and authentic German barbecue are also returning.

“Spring Fest started back in 2008 at Bedford Corn Exchange on behalf of Bedford Borough Council, to highlight Bedford’s twinning with Bamberg – both of which are famous for their beer brewing.”

Admission is free.
