New raised garden for pupils to enjoy at Shelton Lower School
Young people joined forces at Shelton Lower School when the Bedfordshire Young Offenders Service built a raised garden for pupils to enjoy.
It was created for a gardening project in which pupils produce a range of organic vegetables.
But one wheelchair-bound pupil had not been able to join until funding for the scheme was found under the Great Outdoors Project.
Now the first harvest has been gathered in.
Mary Lund, the school site agent who organises the club, said: "The children absolutely love it. The club is so popular that we have got a waiting list for pupils to join.
"Our rule is that the children do everything and we just supervise them. They get stuck in there and have to get their hands dirty with all the plants, mud and horse manure.
"We grow leeks, peas, radishes, lettuce, garlic, strawberries, so many things and they are all organic. And when we sell them on, all the funds go to buying more seeds and equipment for the club."
