Pupils celebrate by performing with the regimental band of the Coldstream Guards

Patriotic pupils celebrated St George's Day in style when they performed with the world-famous regimental band of the Coldstream Guards.

The 48-piece band marched into Bedford Corn Exchange on Wednesday and gave some pointers to Newnham Middle School's orchestra and a group of young percussionists from Silsoe Lower School.

The budding musicians played some of their own music before joining the regimental band's ranks to perform a very special version of the Queen classic, We Will Rock You.

The Coldstream Guards, who normally play to sell-out audiences at the Royal Albert Hall and the Edinburgh Tattoo, also played two charity concerts in Bedford.

A Celebration of Everything English, including music ranging from Benjamin Britten to The Beatles, took place at Bedford Corn Exchange during the afternoon, before the historical Beating of the Retreat ceremony at Bedford Rugby Club.

Both concerts were held to raise money for Dream Flight children's charity, which provides holidays for seriously ill and disabled youngsters.

The events marked the 15th year of the Bedford St George's Day celebrations, which have already raised more than £250,000 for charity.

Have you had an annual pay rise in the last 12 months?
Yes, a whopper, thanks for asking.
A small one, but it has hardly covered the increased costs of living.
Not this year, I'm afraid.
What's an annual pay rise? I can't remember the last time I had one.
