A blooming marvellous occasion took place at St Mary's Church in Clophill last weekend.

Clophill and District Flower Club hosted a three-day festival also featuring a range of photos from the village going back 150 years, as well as the results of a consultation into the parish council's recent village plan.

Around £1,700 was raised towards the upkeep of the church.

Carole Shaw, who was one of the organisers, said: "It was a fantastic event and really brought the village together. People and business all got involved, whether it was helping to organise and set it up, donating photographs or sponsoring what we are doing.

"There were a lot of people from old Clophill families looking at pictures and finding old relatives, and the flowers were absolutely beautiful."

What do you think about Government proposals to double the size of Yarl's Wood?
After what we've been through in Bedfordshire with the riot and fire five years ago, I'd rather the facilities were built somewhere else.
Fair enough, we have got to house failed asylum seekers somewhere.
It's a recipe for disaster housing foreign criminals with immigrants who have outstayed their visas and others going through the fast-track immigration process.
