Thousands turn out to tackle 5k course along The Embankment to raise funds for cancer charity

Lively ladies walked, jogged and ran in memory of friends and family, to raise money for charity at Bedford's annual Race For Life event on Sunday.

Russell Park turned into a sea of pink as thousands of women gathered to tackle the 5k course, which snakes along The Embankment and over the town bridge to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Jovial joggers in a host of weird and wonderful fancy dress costumes were encouraged by hordes of cheering fans who lined the route.

Bedford's Race for Life was one of 260 similar events being held across the country this summer, which organisers hope will help raise more than £50million for Cancer Research UK's lifesaving work.

Are you feeling the pinch in the ongoing credit crunch?
Too right, food and energy bills are hurting the most.
As long as I don't lose my job I'm just about OK
Stocks and shares falling doesn't really affect me.
