26th pit run is held in Harrold

Runners young and old gathered for a special St George's Day themed pit run in Harrold on Saturday.

More than 200 keen athletes, fun runners and those just out for a leisurely stroll completed a 5km course around the north Bedfordshire village and the nearby country park and lakes.

Now in its 26th year, the event catered for all ages and abilities, with a children's event and hotly-contested wheelchair competition.

Visitors who did not feel energetic enough to take part in the run, which raised around £5,000 for a range of charities, enjoyed a St George's Day fair, including traditional games, food, beer and a brass band.

Entertainment was also provided by the Calvados Society, which
re-enacted St George slaying the dragon to raise money for prostate cancer research.

Have you had an annual pay rise in the last 12 months?
Yes, a whopper, thanks for asking.
A small one, but it has hardly covered the increased costs of living.
Not this year, I'm afraid.
What's an annual pay rise? I can't remember the last time I had one.
