Volunteers team up for first in a series of community efforts this year.

Good green fun was on the agenda on Saturday when the first rivercare clean-up of 2008 took place at Longholme Way.

The event, organised by Bedford Borough Council, featured litter-picking, divers and even a competition to design pieces of art from
recycled materials.

Deborah O'Regan, community partnerships officer at the Town Hall, said: "Our rivercare and community clean-ups are always sociable events and this was a real family day out."

Have you had an annual pay rise in the last 12 months?
Yes, a whopper, thanks for asking.
A small one, but it has hardly covered the increased costs of living.
Not this year, I'm afraid.
What's an annual pay rise? I can't remember the last time I had one.
