Air cadets from 134 (Bedford) Squadron beat off competition from 28 other team to take the honours

Cadets from Shortstown have been drilled to perfection, after winning a prestigious competition for the fifth year running.

The 134 (Bedford) Squadron air cadets spent three months preparing for the Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire Wing Drill Competition, which was held at RAF Wyton in Cambridgeshire last month.

They competed against 28 other teams, and were required to complete a marching sequence containing 52 individual drill movements, while being marked by five qualified instructors.

This year the 134 team were led onto the parade square by 18-year-old Cadet Sergeant Michael Every, who has been part of the team for six years.

And only three other members of the team this year had previously taken part in the competition.

Having won the event, the team will represent the wing at the regional drill competition at RAF Wittering, Cambridgeshire, in September.

Flight Sergeant Sean Denham, who led the team to success in 2006 and 2007, said: "I am very proud of all of the achievements of the squadron. It puts into perspective the fantastic training that the squadron provides for its cadets, evident through the results.

"Sgt Every did an excellent job leading the drill team and the squadron looks forward to the next round of the competition."
