Women win at last event

Bedford & County AC's women triumph in their last meet

Tasha Peters clinched victory in both the 1,500m and 3,000m as Bedford & County AC's women won their final Southern Women's League Division One outing of the season.

Peters recorded season's bests at both distances as the host club headed the standings by a comfortable 17-point margin from runners-up Harrow. Peterborough finished the meeting in third place while Blackheath & Bromley were fourth.

Peters was joined on the winners list by Becky Newstead and Phillippa Prescott, who won the B string 3,000m and 1,500m respectively.

Team captain Leanne Buxton triumphed in the shot (11.59m) and javelin (34.04m), while Rachael Bennett and Amber Fielden came out on top in the B string shot and javelin.

Further A string victories for the home side included Bathoni Puplampu in the high jump (1.55m), Katie Winwood in the hammer (39.97m), Luci Glenister in the pole vault (2.20m), Becky Lister in the 400m (59.7secs) and the 4x400m relay team.

Winwood won the B string pole vault, Brenda Russell the hammer and Emily Boast the high jump to complete a good day.

Bedford & County will be hoping to take their solid form of this season into next year when they will compete in Division Three of the UK Women's League.
