West heads to Silverstone for second race

Bedford-based novice Josh West is readying for the second race of his career in the final round of the HSCC Historic Formula Ford Championship at Silverstone on Saturday.

The 20-year-old former Bedford Modern School student will be driving a 1970 Merlyn Formula Ford for the Silverstone-based Speedsport Promotions team.

Last month West achieved pole position, won the race and achieved fastest lap on his debut in the heavy rain at Brands Hatch. However, West and the team remain grounded and will be at the circuit on Friday for a full day’s testing and driver coach, former British Formula Ford Champion and GP3 racer Callum MacLeod, has been extensively preparing him for the circuit.

West said: “With Formula Ford racing a couple of tenths of a second in a lap can make a huge difference so we need to get everything right in qualifying and in the race.”
