Waders go nap but cup tie is abandoned
But there's Tuesday night defeats for Blues and Reds
With Biggleswade Town 5-1 up and cruising into the semi-finals of the Bedfordshire FA Senior Challenge Cup, floodlight failure at the Carlsberg Stadium in the 55th minute caused Tuesday night's long awaited quarter-final tie with Luton Town to be adandoned.
The Blue Square Premier side sent along a strong but youthful side and were mindful that the Waders had already beaten them pre-season in the Beds FA Premier Cup back in July in a penalty shoot-out.
Jamie Steele gave the hosts a 1-0 lead on 16 minutes, Aaran Cavill netted a second (and his first for the club since joining from Bedford) in the 22 minute with a six yard tap in.
Bobby Dance added the third from the penalty spot on the half hour and while Ryan Da Silva pulled one back for the Hatters six minutes later, the visitors then had a man sent off for handling. But from the second spot kick of the half, Cavill's shot was saved although Waders new signing Craig Radcliffe tucked away the rebound for 4-1 on his debut.
Five minutes into the new half Biggleswade skipper Liam Folds lobbed in the fifth but five minutes later it was all over when the floodlights went out. And despite attempts to get them back on, the game had to be abandoned which leaves the two sides to rearrange it with the winners due to host either Langford of Leighton Town (who are scheduled to play at Forde Park next Tuesday) in the last four.
At Bell Close, Arlesey Town went down 2-1 in the Zamaretto League Bedfordshire derby against Leighton Town in front of just 65 spectators.
And at Colney Heath's Recreation Ground in the Molten Spartan South Midlands League, Langford's run of poor results continued was they suffered a 2-0 defeat.
The United Counties League game scheduled for Roker Park between Stotfold and Newport Pagnell Town was called off at 3pm due to a waterlogged pitch.
