Vase victory for Bedford

SSML side win through but Kempston Rovers exit competition on Saturday

Chris Boniface was the hero of the hour for Bedford, scoring a hattrick in the side's 3-1 win over Hoddesdon Town in the FA Vase First Round Qualifying.

He put the side two up inside six minutes and added a third on 66, George Hunt grabbing a consolation for Hoddesdon.

Meanwhile Kempston Rovers fell to the only goal of their Vase tie at home to Hadley Rovers, Jesse Reynolds on the mark midway through the first half at Hillgrounds.

In SSML Division One Ampthill were involved in a 4-4 thriller with Berkhamsted.

Two down at the break from a James Armstrong brace, Ampthill launched a great fight back with Dave Murphy and Danny Pilgrim levelling the scores inside five minutes of the restart before Sean Cooksey put them ahead just past the hour.

A Tony Burnett double put Berko back in front but Stuart Reynolds bagged a late leveller.

In the SSML Challenge Trophy Bedford Town Reserves came away with a 3-0 victory from MK Wanderers, with first half goals coming from Jermaine Ivy, Sam Evans and Manny Richardson.

In the UCL Wootton Blue Cross fell to a 4-0 home defeat to Bourne Town.

After Stewart Lambie had put the visitors one up at half time Alex Brockbank made it two just after the restart.

Lambie made it three with sub Tom Dunn adding a fourth late on.
