Unbeaten Boness claims points win

Cottier clouted at Stadium MK

Undefeated Jamie Boness claimed his second straight win with a points victory over Duncan Cottier at Stadium MK tonight.

Biggleswade boy Boness was by far the more able fighter and showed the greater skills throughout his four-round fight against Watford boxer Duncan Cottier as he eased to a 39-37 points win in their light middleweight bout.

The first round got off to a frenetic start, but Boness looked like he had learnt from his professional debut in Luton last summer as he looked to use his jab more effectively and much more often.

Now based in Luton, Boness looked to be the better boxer as he tried to use the most of his height advantage.

But it wasn't until the second round that either boxer started to land any telling blows.

Caught with a good shot from the bulldozing Cottier early in the second Boness responded with a great combination after a minute.

However, despite being the 'prettier' fighter, Boness struggled against Cottier's barging and butting style as the Watford man looked to wrap him up at every opportunity.

A cut appeared above Boness' left eye in the third round, but the Bedfordshire man showed his class in the last round, landing a good left and a decent right at regular intervals to set him apart.

And, with the tiring Cottier leaning on Boness at every opportunity, it was little surprise to see the referee raise Boness' arm in triumph at the bell, as he claimed a 39-37 points victory.

That means Boness has now won two and drawn one of his three professional bouts.
