ASPIRING Hatters have identified two players they want to sign during the January transfer window to help their promotion push, writes Mark Wood.

Manager Gary Brabin admitted Luton have two key transfer targets, but has faith in his squad if they are unable to land them.

He said: “We are certainly keen to look to strengthen the squad from here on in, but it’s got to be the right type.

“It’s something we are 24/7 on again. It’s got to be the right type and someone who will come in and improve the side.

“There’s a couple of players we’ve identified and we would like to get in and that never stops.

“In football you’ve got your finger on the pulse with players and I think that’s the way it should be.

“Certainly at the moment we’ve identified two that would be good acquisitions to the squad.

“If we don’t get them we’ve got players here at the club who’ve still got a big say on what we do from here on in.

“We are not going to be in a desperate rush to try and do anything.

“There’s one or two things we are assessing at the moment and if we get any joy with that we will be delighted.

“We’ve got a good squad at the minute and the main thing is trying to get everyone fit and keeping everyone on the pitch.

“If we can strengthen the squad as well in this window it will be a massive help, but we’ve still got players here who have got a big say on what we do from here on in.”

With James Dance and Keith Keane struggling with injury the midfield is one area the Hatters would appear to be keen to strengthen.

Brabin said: “That’s certainly one position I think we are a little bit short on. Again we are going to have to look the extent of it.

“James Dance wasn’t 100 per cent but he was on the bench against Mansfield on Wednesday so he’s sort of playing through the pain at the moment and that’s the type of character he is. He just wants to play all the time.

“We’ve lost Keith, I think he’s been part of a midfield three that have looked really good and worked well together and he’s been a loss for us today.”

But the Hatters haven’t received any bids of any of their players, with most managers after 30-goal strikers.

Brabin added: “At the moment there’s been no bids and I know there’s a lot of interest or paper talk if you like on players and a lot of scouts at our games but I’ve certainly had no calls or any bids for our players.

“I’m not surprised. Yes we’ve got some good players but I think everyone at the moment is looking for 30-goal strikers and we haven’t got one of them at the moment.

“We’ve got a good young side with good players and I don’t think at the moment anyone is desperate to look for that type of player.

“I’m speaking to managers at other clubs and they are all looking for 30-goal strikers.

“We genuinely haven’t had any interest in terms of bids or approaches for any of our players. It hasn’t happened and if it does we will address it.”
