Team Supercool edge classic encounter
Football round-up
>> Bedford Leisure League
Bottom of the Bedford Six-A-side Leisure League table Team Supercool edged a classic encounter with Screwfix United.
The defeat, inspired by Jake Rennie, was hard to digest for United.
The Young Upstarts moved into pole position in the race for second after an important last few minutes saw them run out 8-4 victors against Real Bedford.
Goldington Legends lost their grip on the runners-up spot after losing 6-3 to Willington Wanderers.
There was a defeat too, for champions-elect Hardly Athletic, as they were surprisingly edged out 5-4 by struggling Inter, who had Simon Woodcock at his best.
>> Intersoccer AFC Kempston League
The new campaign kicked off with last term's title challengers Samba Superstars and Kempston Hammers clashing in the Premier Division.
The red-shirted Hammers had Grant Williams at his tricky best as they triumphed 6-3. Oli Dove, Martin Ivy and Michael Stephenson on target for Samba.
Promoted Intersoccer Allstars found it tough going against Oakley with the experience of Richard and Ryan Smith, Ray Patrickson and Chris Boniface the difference in the 4-2 scoreline.
Bedford Young Indians and Joga Benito, the Division One champions, shared in a 4-4 draw, while Tizer Thiefs hit four against Wootton Wanderers. Brian Day (2) Jamie Rayner and Ross Dougall were their marksmen.
The opening Division One games saw Kempston Eagles score five second half goals to end Marsh Leys' resistance.
James Stephenson, James Denton (2) and Tony Milioti (2) weighed in with the goals.
Power Rangers powered their way to a 5-3 victory against Predators with Ed Lerario and Tom Debenadictus in top form.
Hillgrounds Sports won by the odd goal in nine versus Team Extreme.
In an end-to-end battle Mark Fensome claimed a brace, while there were goals for Darren Hulme, Paul Bygrave and Dave Bevan.
>> Kempston teams tie in memorial game
Kempston Sunday held Kempston Rovers to a 1-1 draw in the The Latimer Cup at the weekend.
The match was arranged as a memorial for one of the Sunday players, whose brother was tragically killed a few years ago.
Craig Grieve put Rovers ahead in the 60th minute, heading home unchallenged from a corner, but the goalscorer then made a mistake in his own area, allowing Scott Joseph the chance to equalise.
Both teams created chances in the closing stages, but neither team could take them, and the match helped raise 700 for the Latimer family's chosen charity The Addenbrookes Acute Care Unit.
