Taylor warns of more to come after Plymouth romp

Albion sunk by determined Blues

Winger Duncan Taylor believes that Bedford have a lot more to come after their emphatic 51-3 victory over Plymouth at Goldington Road on Saturday.

He said: "It was a really good game for us and a good game to play in because we played really well.

"It's a good way to start the season but there's definitely more to come."

Bedford racked up eight tries to Plymouth's none with a hat-trick for Ollie Dodge and two for skipper James Pritchard.

Taylor continued: "Coming so close last year makes us all determined to be up there and challenging again."

Director of rugby Mike Rayer named three debutants in his side for the match with two more on the bench, and Taylor added: "The new boys are all really nice lads, they've settled in well which makes the whole experience of being at this club very enjoyable."

After narrowly missing out on promotion last year, Bedford will be hoping to go one step further this year and this win got them off to a perfect start.

They got the scoreboard moving after seven minutes when a Plymouth mistake resulted in a penalty, which Pritchard converted with ease.

His kick seemed to settle down Bedford as they started to dominate possession and territory.

And their dominance was soon rewarded with a try when a fine grubber kick from Brendan Burke was latched on to by Sacha Harding, who went over in the corner to give the Blues an 8-0 lead with 25 minutes on the clock.

Despite a well-converted penalty from Albion, Bedford continued to pressurise the visiting side's defence.

That pressure eventually resulted in two tries in quick succession for the outstanding Dodge.

On 37 minutes a magnificent pass from Paul Tupai found Dodge in space to run over for a try before Didge himself then beat several men to go over in the corner to give the Blues a 20-3 half time lead.

After the break the hosts were completely dominant, running in five tries against lacklustre Plymouth.

Straight after the interval, Albion found themselves down to 14 men when Ruairi Cushion was yellow carded for a professional foul.

Bedford made the extra man count immediately as Dan Richmond scored a fourth try.

Three minutes later Dodge completed his hat-trick thanks to some good work from debutant Jackson Wray.

Darryl Veenendaal then produced a magical run to set up Duncan Taylor for another try and there was still time for two more tries for former Plymouth full-back Pritchard.

With three minutes remaining he went over for a seventh Blues try followed by another try in the last minute when a clever grubber kick from Nick Walshe gave Pritchard the easy task of running over to complete a comprehensive 51-3 win.
