Swifts shine in win

Bedford side shows its strength in depth

Bedford Swifts took on both Oundle's first and second XVs in two home friendlies on Saturday.

Swifts trialled 25 players in the first XV squad as they beat Oundle five tries to two.

Tries came from Darren Goodwin, Cameron Alsop, Jody Woodfield, Jone Yabaki and a brilliant solo effort from Andy Jones.

Particularly strong performances came from Jones, Gareth Tindall and, coming back after a year off, David Cox.

The second XV, meanwhile, narrowly lost by one score.

This week Swifts will take a smaller first XV squad to Northampton Old Scouts as they look to define their ideal 18 players for their league opener against Rushden on September 11.
