SUNDAY: Blues forced to call off Bank Holiday Monday derby
Meanwhile Blunham cricketers on course for World Record
Arlesey Town's Southern League local derby with Bigglesawde Town scheduled for tomorrow (Bank Holiday Monday) has been cancelled as the Blues will be involved in an FA Cup preliminary round replay away to Aylesbury United just 24 hours later.
The Blues were held in a 1-1 draw by the Haywards Way side on Saturday and the top FA competition take priority over the any league fixtures.
At Blunham's Village Playing Fields, Blunham Cricket Club are on course to smash the World Record for the longest ever game of cricket.
Back in August 2008 they established a 59 hour 23 3minute record but that was subsequently beaten by a team from Sydney, Australia. And since then another team from New Zealand have pushed the total playing time to a staggering 100 hours.
So in a charity driven reply, Blunhaam CC began their quest for a new 105 hour target in the heavy rain of Thursdaay morning at 10am and they have played non-stop ever since.
With several cancer charities set to gain from the record attempt and playing under floodlights at night, a total of 24 players have endured everything that the weather has thrown at them but by 7pm tomorrow (Bank Holiday Monday) they will have achieved their 105 hour goal and deservedly put themselves back in the Guinness Book of Records.
