Stopsley Striders beat off Putteridge SC at biathlon

Victorious Stopsley Striders once again saw of competition from Putteridge Swimming Club to triumph at the annual Inter-club Biathlon last Saturday.
The swim distance was increased this year in an attempt to stop Striders' dominance, but it couldn't prevent them from once again taking the crown.
There were excellent performances all around, especially from Kirsty Edwards who had the fastest swim of the day and Stuart Harries who clocked the fastest run.
Another busy month for Stopsley Striders saw 14 of their members compete in the Whipsnade 10km on June 7, with the men's team finishing third and the ladies an excellent second.
Chris Lamont was first in the V55 category and Kirsty Edwards was the first U20 lady.
Adrian Copp had another excellent run to come home in 15th place, while Mark Sains, Jenna Litchfield, Edwards, Linda Thomasson, Dianne Blackmore, Stewart Read, Terri Grasby and Fiona Edwards all put in personal best performances.
Eight Striders were in action at the hilly Barton 10km on June 14, while 10 competed at the St Albans Half Marathon on the same day.
Chris Lamont was first V55 at the Southend Half Marathon with Chris Hunt registering a new PB of 1.34hrs.
Brave duo Chris Hunter and Maureen McCulloch, meanwhile, did a parachute jump for the club's nominated charity, the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
There were 15 Striders in action at the Marston Forest 5km on June 19.
Hunter, Blackmore, Terri Grassby, Mark Sains, Barbara Hunt, Hayley Bewley and Greer Kidney all registered new bests, while club veteran Helen Morris put in an excellent performance in her first race in 11 months after coming back from injury.
Three Boxfit Triathlon Club members competed at the Cowman Half Ironman at Emberton Park In Milton Keynes.
Steve Morales covered the distance in a time of 6.30hrs, Leigh Pilgrim was seven minutes quicker in 6.23hrs, but the fastest of the trio was Craig Halsey who secured an 11th place finish with a time of 4.34hrs.
Steve Kerr took on the sprint distance – 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run – and came home in 1.22hrs.
