ANGLING: Queens Works AC were on the river at College Farm, Oakley, on Sunday for their fifth Winter League match, but freezing conditions saw only four anglers turn up.

It turned out to be a very good day for Paul Stokes as he fished a chopped-worm feeder and caught three good chub for a winning weight of 10lb 10oz.

Championship leader Richard Newman, Winter League leader Derek Taylor and contender Steve Cooper all failed to get a bite. With one match remaining, Stokes, pictured above, now tops the championship table, 17 points ahead of Newman and he is now only one point behind Taylor in the Winter League.
